Frequently asked questions

Created by Jake Cameronne and Matthew Hotchkis, two Australian podiatrists, SOLE-X was created to improve people’s quality of life by making custom orthotics affordable and accessible to every Australian. We are patient focused – Our priority is you.

Custom orthotics are much different from shoe inserts since the former are prescription-based, high-quality medical devices. They are custom-made using a laser scan of your foot, so they are designed to fit you perfectly. As a result, SOLE-X orthotics have a higher chance of correcting biomechanical foot problems like the misalignment of the foot and ankle.

YES! SOLE-X are custom made orthotics based on your foot impression, personal information, lifestyle, needs, and medical history. They are designed by our experienced in-house podiatrists and made from top quality materials, using the most advanced technology to create the perfect orthotic.

To ensure a perfect fit, we create a 3D mould of the foot by gently placing it into a foam box to capture an imprint. This will have to be sent back to us alongside your medical script duly completed online. Our team of professional podiatrists will then review the mould and script to make the perfect orthotics for your feet.

Depending on your lifestyle and medical history, we will determine which materials to make the orthotic from. This might range anywhere from a very soft accommodative foam for certain conditions to a very rigid hard thermoplastic or carbon fibre material for other conditions. Once everything is fine-tuned to your specific profile, your very own unique orthotics are delivered to your door.

Your orthotics will have a design that is unique to your feet, it is 100% designed for you. Our team of professionals consider everything: the shape of your feet, your age, your lifestyle, the types of sports you do, your everyday activities, previous experience with orthotics, and even your favourite shoes/brands.

This highly depends on underlying issues, but in most cases, you will feel immediate relief. In some other cases, your feet may need a while to get used to your SOLE-X. Custom orthotics support your arch and hold your feet in a healthier position. If you’re not used to it, it may feel awkward at first.

Yes! SOLE-X is designed to fit every kind of shoes, from tradie boots to high heels, open or closed, casual or formal, running or trekking, we got you covered. We design, you sit tight.

Our founders Jake & Matthew have designed 4 different models that will fit your lifestyle:

  • SOLE-X Comfort: From 18 to 80, day to day life
  • SOLE-X Active: From 18 to 80, with an active lifestyle/job
  • SOLE-X Performance: Designed for athletes that are looking for the best foot support to enhance results
  • SOLE-X Kids: From 7 to 17, active or not, support their growth

You will receive your custom orthotics within 5-7 business days after receiving your impression kit and questionnaire back. Please remember to use your SOLE-X orthotics over the original soles of your selected shoes (some other brands will ask you remove it). As our orthotics are custom-built based on your specific profile, no two pairs will look alike.

SOLE-X are NOT machine-washable. To clean, simply wipe them with a warm soapy cloth, gently rinse with cool water. Air dry before putting them back into the shoes. Avoid washing them too often, which may cause them to degrade more quickly.

SOLE-X are made in Australia. Jake and Matthew, our podiatrist duo behind these custom orthotics, are a team of fully licensed Australian podiatrists based in Canberra. The 3D printing lab is located in Melbourne.

SOLE-X are made with top quality materials. Ultimately, this means your custom orthotics are built to last longer than any over the counter insole would. The product life of our orthotics ranges anywhere from 1 year to 2 years or longer depending on prescription and usage. As long as you care for them properly.

Orthotics are unfortunately not covered under Medicare. Given this is a retail product and you aren’t consulting with a podiatrist, you can’t claim via private health insurance either. Don’t worry as you are well ahead given your orthotics are already half the price of normal orthotics!
